Swedish sisterly duo, First Aid Kit, is set to release their first major-label album, Stay Gold, on June 10th. Johanna Söderberg, 23 and Karla Söderberg, 21 got their first taste of notoriety on YouTube in 2008 with their cover of the Fleet Foxes song 'Tiger Mountain Peasant'.
The sisters hail from Stockholm but have a fondness for the American folk.Stay Gold features the familiar bluesy ache of country music. "What if my hard work just leads to despair?/What if the Road won't take me there?," the sisters sing on the title track 'Stay Gold'--but it's not all about lonely hearts and broken dreams. First Aid Kit bounces back with the jangly thigh-slapping folksy twang on the penultimate track 'Heaven Knows.' Not strictly a country album, the First Aid Kit sound can be described as bright indie pop with down home roots.
Karl and Johanna's voices sparkle throughout the albums 10 tracks with beautiful harmonies, adding a lasting sheen that sometimes slightly darkens with haunting melodies. Although it is common knowledge that all that glitters is not gold, rest assured that Stay Gold is the real thing.
