Welcome to Organic Fashion, a new Filles on Film feature that spotlights all fashion with no filler. Fast-fashion, a crowded fashion week calendar, and street-style chaos has some fashion lovers wishing for a return to a simpler time when fashion shows weren't mobbed by street style photogs and fashion houses weren't lumped together in such fashion behemoths as Kering and PPR.
Organic Fashion will feature everything from slow fashion companies to the shouts and murmurs from fashion insiders.
This week, read Suzy Menkes latest column for T magazine in which she warns that the whirlwind pace of the fashion calendar can have and adverse effect on designers.
In other organic fashion news, Oscar de la Renta is forgoing megashow mania by opting for a more intimate setting for his SS 2014 show. Guests in attendance will be only those with a "legitimate professional purpose."
Dannijo's Cosima necklace takes the current chunky chain trend and adds a little edge in the form of oxidized silver plated spikes. A prong-set Swarovski crystal centerpiece adds a touch of glam to this bold statement piece. Dannijo.com
Formally a design assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood, Sophia Webster has struck out on her own, creating her own eponymous shoe label. The British designer debuted her first collection during the SS2013 season. Webster has a flare for attention grabbing footwear. Her designs often feature colorful patterns and geometric shapes.
I was at Zara last week when I side-eyed some jean skirts in different styles. "Are they ( the fashion gods) trying to push jean skirts on us now?". When I think of jean skirts, I think of the awkwardly fitting ones I wore in middle and high school. Not my best fashion moment. So you can understand why I have a slight aversion to the jean skirt. But, this shot of Miroslova Duma, founder of the Russian fashion blog Buro 24/7, has me rethinking my anti jean skirt stance. Mira looks super cute in her button down jean skirt and striped shirt paired with a Chanel bag circa the early 1990s.
So I'm a leeeeettle late with this one, but I'd thought I would post this delightful mash-up between CFDA menswear designer of the year nominees and Daft Punk. This year's nominees included Thom Browne, Michael Bastian, and Duckie Brown designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver. Thom Browne was named the 2013 menswear designer of the year during the June 3 ceremony held at Lincoln Center. I am for everything Thom Browne. The fashion world needs more Thom Brownes.
